Hi-I am new here.  I am not divorced, but my husband has told me that is what he wants after 30 years of marriage.  He has seen a lawyer and is "exploring his options", as he puts it.  I have an appointment with a lawyer in my home state of Tennessee, but not until March.  I do NOT want the divorce, but will not fight it.  I would like to ease my mind (IF that's possible??) by asking if any knows if I might be entitled to spousal support?  I am in my 50's.  I was a stay at home mom and worked off and on some (not much) as the kids grew up.  He worked out of town a lot and I only worked when I could fit a job into the kids schedules.  I am now disabled and unable to work more than a few (6 to 10 hours) a week.  I could never support myself, keep insurance, pay for my medications, etc.  Not to mention just everyday living expenses.  I am not eligible for disability because of the lack of credits for work over the past 10 years.  I am scared to death that I am going to have to become dependent on my children or my siblings.  BTW, he has moved in with a twenty-something.  Does anyone know what the divorce laws are in Tennessee?  What does a judge base the eligibility of support on?  Is there a percentage he works from?  Thanks for listening.

Hey, I'm in a similar position.  Just this March my stbx told me that he wanted out of our marriage of 28 years.  I have temporary spousal support until the divorce and then I will get alimony for life.  I worked 26 of those 28 years but the last two I have been disabled.  I had to leave my house because of his abuse and I was able to get a protection order for a year on his sorry behind.  I have struggled with the betrayal but better late than never.  Now I see just how pitiful the whole relationship really was and I thank God that He is there for me.  Hang in there darling, better life is coming.
